Frequently asked questions:

How much does therapy cost?

My rate is $125 per 55 minute session. I am an out-of-network provider; meaning I do not accept insurance. However, I am able to provide something called a “superbill” for those with insurance to submit for possible reimbursement. Insurance company policies vary widely, so I always suggest you talk to your insurance company if reimbursement is important to you.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions a person attends is deeply personal. Some folks come to counseling needing help with an acute issue, and feel “finished” after fewer sessions. Some like to maintain services for long-term care and maintenance. The total number of sessions is very much up to the client, but when we are first getting started, I recommend weekly sessions for the first three or four visits so that we can get to know each other well, and establish a treatment plan.

What if we aren’t a good fit?

The most important part of any therapy is the relationship between client and counselor. I offer a free 15 minute consultation to give us a chance to meet and see if we “vibe,” and this is usually enough to tell if it’s a good fit. However, if at any point you start feeling like you need a different approach and/or counselor, I encourage you to TELL ME. I want therapy to work for you, even if that means we need a different way for us to work together, or you need to find a different counselor. I can always offer referrals as well.

How do we get started?

The first (and sometimes hardest) step, is reaching out to schedule a free consultation. You can do that by clicking the “contact us” button below, or by emailing me at jen@highlandcounselingservices.com. Once we’ve had a consultation, if you want to schedule an intake, we get it on the calendar! I’ll then send you a set of intake documents through your newly established patient portal. Those documents will need to be completed before our session. This paperwork can seem a little daunting, but I promise, it saves us so much time during our first session, and really helps me to better meet you where you’re at, and where you need me to be.

What if I need to cancel a session?

I understand that life happens (it happens to me too, sometimes!). If you need to cancel, I ask that you give 24 hours notice. If it’s less than 24 hours notice, you will still be billed for your session, but I’ll do my best to reschedule your session for sometime within the following 7 days.
